Dermal filler
Restylane is an FDA-approved family of hyaluronic acid dermal fillers with separate formulas for different areas of the face, from fine lines around the mouth to deep volume in the cheeks. In Pleasanton it is placed by Zayda Yeoh, NP, the Women's Health Nurse Practitioner at Radiance East Bay Aesthetics, who trained in injectables through Aesthetic Medical Educators Training and IAPAM. A session takes 30 to 45 minutes, the result shows immediately and lasts 6 to 18 months depending on the product and the area. Hyaluronic acid already lives in your skin and keeps it hydrated and supple, and there is less of it each year. Restylane is a smooth hyaluronic acid gel that integrates with the tissue where it is placed, draws in water, and adds lift, structure and hydration exactly there.

Both are FDA-approved hyaluronic acid fillers, and both are excellent. Restylane offers formulas designed for specific concerns, such as fine lines or under-eye hollows, and its gel is made with varying particle sizes for precise placement. Juvederm is a smooth, cohesive gel best known for lips, cheeks and immediate smoothness.

The appointment
Before. A consultation in which Zayda evaluates your features, asks what you want to change and designs a plan around your natural proportions. Prep is minimal: she may ask you to avoid alcohol, aspirin and, unless they are prescribed, blood-thinning medications for 24 to 48 hours before, to reduce bruising.
During. About 30 to 45 minutes. Zayda places the Restylane gel with a fine needle or a cannula, exactly where the plan calls for it. Most Restylane products are formulated with lidocaine, so the session is more comfortable than most people expect.
After. Slight swelling, redness or tenderness at the injection sites is normal and usually settles within a few days. Most patients go back to their routine straight away, and makeup can usually go on the next day. For 24 to 48 hours, avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol and excessive sun or heat.
Results. Immediate, with the full effect visible once any swelling subsides, typically within one to two weeks. Results last 6 to 18 months depending on the product and the area, and Zayda plans touch-ups around your goals.
When a line moves as well as sags, Zayda often pairs Restylane with Botox or Jeuveau.
Candidacy
You are likely a good candidate if you:
Restylane may not be suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with certain skin conditions at the injection site. Zayda reviews your medical history at the consultation before recommending it.
Cost
The number of syringes and which Restylane formula each area calls for. A lip alone and a lip with the cheeks and tear troughs are different plans, and a formula made for deep volume is not the one used for fine lines. Before anything is opened, Zayda gives you the plan and the total at the consultation.
