Hormone optimization for women

Hormone replacement therapy in Pleasanton, CA, started low and adjusted to your labs

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) restores the hormones that fall or drift out of balance with age, stress or a health condition, most often estrogen, progesterone and testosterone, and brings them back into a healthy range. At Radiance East Bay Aesthetics in Pleasanton, Zayda Yeoh, NP, a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, prescribes it from a full hormone panel and adjusts it at regular follow-ups until the numbers and the way you feel agree. The first step is a consultation and a blood draw.

What hormone replacement therapy treats

HRT is for the symptoms that arrive when estrogen, progesterone or testosterone drop: hot flashes and night sweats, sleep that breaks at 3 a.m., a libido that has gone quiet, fatigue, weight that climbs around the middle, and the mood swings, irritability or brain fog that follow.

In perimenopause, cycles turn irregular and sleep and mood shift as estrogen and progesterone start to swing. In menopause, hot flashes, night sweats, weight change and low libido follow the fuller decline. HRT is written for both stages, with a different dose and mix.

What each hormone does in the plan

Estrogen relieves menopausal symptoms and protects bone. Progesterone is its counterpart: it protects the uterus when estrogen is prescribed. Testosterone, in a carefully prescribed low dose, is added for some women when estrogen and progesterone alone do not lift libido, energy or mood.

That is why the panel comes before the prescription. It tells Zayda which of the three you need, and in what proportion, instead of starting every woman on the same combination.

For men, the conversation is about testosterone, and it has its own page.

Bioidentical hormones

Bioidentical hormones have the same structure as the hormones your body makes on its own. Synthetic hormones are similar, not identical. Zayda generally favors bioidentical formulations at the lowest effective dose, and explains the reasoning behind whichever option she recommends for your health profile.

Whether bioidentical is safer, and the rest of the risk questions, have their own page.

How hormone replacement therapy is given

Hormones can be delivered as pellets, injections, creams, patches or oral formulations. Each carries a different risk profile, so the method is chosen to match your body, your goals and your history. Sessions are typically quick and comfortable, and there is little to no downtime with most HRT treatments.

The appointment

What to expect

  1. i

    Consultation and labs

Zayda goes through your symptoms, your lifestyle and what you want back, then orders a comprehensive hormone panel, thyroid included.

  2. ii

    Your plan

Once the results are in, you go through them together and she writes the plan: which hormones, which form, and the lowest dose likely to work.

  3. iii

    Treatment

Pellets, injections, creams, patches or an oral prescription, depending on what suits you. Sessions are typically quick and comfortable.

  4. iv

    The first weeks

Most women notice a change within four to six weeks, usually in energy, sleep or mood, with the clearer results around the three-month mark. Individual results vary.

  5. v

    Follow-up

Monthly visits at first, with repeat labs, while the dose is dialled in. Once you are on a maintenance dose, every three months.

Candidacy

Is hormone replacement therapy right for you?

You are likely a good candidate if you are:

  • in perimenopause, with irregular cycles, mood changes or restless sleep from shifting estrogen and progesterone
  • in menopause, with hot flashes, night sweats, weight changes or low libido that persist
  • living with PCOS, a thyroid disorder or adrenal fatigue that is dragging on your mood, energy or metabolism
  • past the point where nutrition, sleep and stress management alone have closed the gap

Some histories change the conversation, and some rule HRT out. Both are covered on the concerns page.

Cost

The cost depends on which hormones your plan includes, the delivery method, the follow-up labs and how often you are seen early on. Zayda tells you the cost at the consultation, before anything is prescribed.

Questions

Hormone replacement therapy questions, answered

Still unsure? The skin consultation is complimentary, and Zayda will answer anything this page does not.

How much does hormone replacement therapy cost in Pleasanton?

The cost at Radiance East Bay Aesthetics depends on which hormones your plan includes, how they are delivered, the follow-up labs and how often you are seen early on. Zayda quotes the full cost at the consultation. Insurance is not billed. Payment plans are available.

How long do the results of hormone replacement therapy last?

As long as treatment continues. When you stop HRT, hormone levels decline again over time and the symptoms that brought you in can return. With ongoing care and monitoring, the improvements in energy, mood and metabolism hold.

What is the difference between bioidentical and synthetic hormones?

Bioidentical hormones are structurally identical to the ones your body produces, which may help them integrate more smoothly. Synthetic hormones are similar but not identical. Zayda generally favors bioidentical options and discusses which fits your health profile at the consultation.

Will I gain weight on hormone replacement therapy?

Usually the opposite. Balanced hormones tend to improve metabolism and make weight easier to manage, and every HRT plan at Radiance East Bay Aesthetics is paired with nutrition and lifestyle guidance. If weight is your main concern, the medical weight loss programme runs alongside.

Do women need testosterone as part of hormone replacement therapy?

Some do. Testosterone may be recommended when estrogen and progesterone alone do not fully relieve symptoms, most often a drop in sexual desire during menopause. In carefully prescribed low doses it can also support energy and mood. Your labs decide whether it belongs in your plan.

Is hormone replacement therapy safe?

When it is prescribed from lab work and monitored by a medical professional, yes. The cancer, blood clot and side effect questions deserve full answers, and they have their own page.
